Vault Setting in the Winter: Overcoming the Chilly Challenges

Cold weather does more than cause shivers, dropping temperatures can impact burial vault companies tremendously. Taking the weather into consideration is vital to vault companies, and Vault Wrx offers these tips to help your vault company manage the winter season.

1. Be sure your employees are prepared. If necessary, provide warm clothing and/or outerwear to prevent frostbite. Having warm clothing also helps ensure your team won’t rush through their tasks and forget something or compromise safety.

2. Have plenty of inventory on-hand. Let’s face it, death rates are higher in the winter months when colder temperatures start taking a toll on the aged population. Make sure to have an adequate supply of inventory.

3. Work ahead on warmer days. Create inventory during warmer weather based on what's selling the most and what you anticipate needing. Check to see what types of vaults sell during particular times of the year and if there are order trends from funeral companies. An online system like Vault Wrx can help track these details.

4. Find and train the right staff. Burial vault work isn’t for everyone. They often can’t take extra time off from November through January and working on Saturday is a given. Take the time to train your team members by allowing new employees to ride along with experienced vault setters for their first month. Training well up front can help your busy winter season go much smoother.

5. Don’t let the holidays hold you back. In addition to the increase in demand for vaults, there is the added aspect of the holidays when employees take time off. Having plenty of vaults prepared beforehand helps alleviate this demand. The day before a holiday, consider painting all the vaults and getting them ready to go. That way, while the employees are not working on the holiday, everything is ready the day after.

“Losing a loved one during the holidays can be difficult,” noted Brandon Atwood of HD Wrx/Vault Wrx. “It’s important that your staff can focus on the service they are providing and making sure it all goes smoothly so the family is taken care of. While much of your work is done behind the scenes, if it’s done well, it can help the service at the graveside go smoothly and this can be helpful for the family.”

Vault Wrx is a tool that can help your team keep your vault orders running smoothly in any season… even winter. Schedule a no-obligation demonstration by calling us at 812-372-6476 or visit vaultwrx.com.
